Mistletoe in Montana A Christmas Novella edition by Belle Calhoune Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
I already greatly enjoy Ms. Calhoune's books and this one was not a disappointment either. I absolutely adored this story and the introduction of new characters who are just as endearing as the Donahue's. A story of love thrown away, second chances, and most of all family that will leave you wanting more. I certainly hope to read more about these 2 families in the future.
Brenna left her home in Montana to chase her dreams in California. She was engaged to Luke. Things happened and they broke up and she quickly married a man hoping to fulfill her dreams of acting. Life isn't always as great as it seems. Her husband couldn't remain faithful and they ended up divorced. Brenna returns home to Montana. When she arrives, her ex-fiancé Luke is at her parents home discussing the sale of their ranch to him. She is shocked and angry. So much has happened in the 8 years since she left. Divorce is not the easiest of subjects, I think Ms. Calhoune does an excellent job.
Mistletoe in Montana A Christmas Novella is by Belle Calhoune. This is a sweet little novel about a second chance at love.
Brenna Santiago had left Merry, Montana and her family eight years ago to try to make it in Hollywood. She became engaged to Luke Templeton before she left. However, it wasn’t long before she broke that engagement to marry Hank Slade, a wealthy producer in Hollywood. Now she was back at the Half Moon Ranch divorced and penniless due to a pre-nuptial agreement. Could you indeed come home?
Luke Templeton had his heart broken when Brenna left; but he pushed his way through and was now the owner of a realty company. He had come to the ranch today to talk to Hector Santiago about buying the ranch. It was the only hope for the ranch.
What will happen when the two meet up and Brenna finds out he is buying her family ranch?

For those of you missing the holidays already, here is a lovely Christmas novella with a surprising amount of character development. There wasn’t space to really delve into their transformations, but the author did a wonderful job of showing what had gone wrong before, and how Brenna and Luke had matured. I would have liked to see the resolution in the brother as well, but it’s a minor quibble in a lively story of second chances and forgiveness.
There is a scene later in the story that felt like it came a bit out of nowhere right up until the end when it resolved something about what happened eight years before in a beautiful way. Though the writing got rough at points, the characters were strong and believable, making me want to know them better. That’s true for most of the secondary characters as well.
The biggest strength I found, though, was in how the change wasn’t all one-sided. They’d been childhood sweethearts, and Brenna destroyed all that in the way she went about pursuing her love of acting. It could easily have turned into a story about her coming crawling back, having failed miserably. That’s there in part, but what makes the story strong is how she comes to realize the dream was not the problem but rather the choices she made in her pursuit. Most importantly, Luke wakes up to the choices he made as well. He wasn’t as much of the victim he’d thought himself, and he has to face the consequences of his decisions as well before moving forward.
For such a short work, there’s a lot of real meat here about relationships and what it takes to earn that happy ending.
P.S. I read this novella as part of the Love’s Gift box set.
This is a nice, light read for Christmas. It is well-written, and I really enjoyed the portrayals of Brenna's family, the unconditional love they shared, and how they received her back home with open arms after she spent years playing the prodigal. Luke, her first love and former fiance that she abandoned to pursue her dreams was also a caring man with an amazing capacity to forgive.
All that said, I always struggle a little with romances that involve divorces, especially when there is any attempt at or hope of reconciliation, so while I agreed that Brenna had biblical grounds for divorce and was permitted to remarry someone else, it was hard for me when she completely rebuffed her ex-husband's attempts at reconciliation. She may have been correct that he didn't really mean it, but when she was being offered such forgiveness and second chances, it was hard for me to see her unwillingness to give the same. Like I said, she may have been right, but with this being a short novella, we weren't able to see whether or not he was sincere so I found myself feeling a little torn which is not a feeling I particularly enjoy when seeking a light Christmas romance.
Still, it was a well-written novella with strong, engaging characters, so I am giving it four stars.
This book was so, so good. Like they say; sometimes love is sweeter the second time around. ;) I loved every single thing about this book, from beginning to end. I really enjoyed the portrayals of Brenna's family, and the unconditional love they shared with one another. I feel the same way about my own children, and yes sometimes they do things that might make us mad, or even disappoint us a time or two, but they are still our children and we will always still love them, all the same.
As far as Luke; It takes a good man to forgive someone the way he did. And the fact that even though things didn't work out for the two of them, Lucas still cared enough about her parents to try to help them out of a bad financial situation, speaks volumns for any man.
Loved it
